8 years for rapper Lil Boosie in drug smuggle plot

A Baton Rouge rapper known as “Lil Boosie” was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison following his guilty plea to drug charges.

The rapper, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, pleaded guilty to conspiring to smuggle codeine, marijuana and ecstasy into two state prisons, the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola and Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, La.

Dana Cummings, an East Baton Rouge Parish prosecutor, said Hatch was serving a prison term for a separate conviction for marijuana possession when he smuggled the drugs with help from a prison guard. Cummings said the guard, Joshua Wilson, also is charged in the case and awaits a trial

State District Judge Mike Erwin sentenced Hatch to the new prison term.

Jason Williams, one of Hatch’s attorneys, said his client tried to smuggle the drugs into prison for his personal use. Williams said Hatch has asked for drug treatment while he’s in prison.

“There are a lot of musicians who suffer from (drug) abuse issues. He is one of them,” Williams said. “This is the first step toward dealing with that addiction problem.”

Hatch also faces a first-degree murder charge in the October 2009 death of Terry Boyd. The trial is scheduled to start April 30.

Prosecutors allege Hatch hired Michael Louding to kill Terry Boyd, who was shot through a window of his home. Louding also is charged with first-degree murder in Boyd’s death.

This has been a roller-coaster ride to remember and I am just glad I am here to witness this great day in African American and American History.

As Americans Black, White, Hispanic, Asian whatever Nationality we most stand together as one Now if we want to make it threw this tough economic times and huge debt the Bush Administrations has left our next Great Young President Barack Obama.

We don't want to lose any momentum this is a huge task at hand and we will have to Unite all as one to over come these adversity and challenges our country great president is facing. It has been a emotional, diligent effort from both candidates and we most respect Senator McCain for is effort and hard fault battle we should except nothing less for a man who has serve our country for hes entire left.

But today Dawns a new era of politics and American and can give every young American to know with hard work, effort, intengellence, patience , wisdom and of course the grace of God that all things is possible and their is no limitations to what we are able to achieve or overcome.

We congratulate President Obama and give are utmost condolences to the whole Obama Family. I sure is grandmother already knew what was destine for her son over the rainbow. Comerica Cityfest 2008, formerly known as Comerica Tastefest, will take the stage, Wednesday, July 2 – Sunday, July 6, for its 20th year of transforming Detroit’s Historic New Center into the city’s biggest and best summer festival. The 2008 festival will serve up another scrumptious slice of music, food and culture on West Grand Boulevard between Cass Avenue and Third Avenue.
Festival-goers will have more time to experience all that Comerica Cityfest 2008 has to offer this year with its new extended hours. The festival will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The 2008 event marks the tenth year with Comerica as Title Sponsor making this partnership the longest running of its kind among Detroit area festivals. In celebration of the festival’s 20th Anniversary, Comerica presents Comerica Family Day, on Saturday, July 5, featuring emerging songbirds and pop sister duo, Aly and AJ.
Comerica Cityfest 2008 is going “green” this year by banning Styrofoam and promoting the use of more environmentally friendly options such as Green Safe products. The festival will also drastically reduce water usage through better distribution practices, offer festival t-shirts made of 100% organic cotton, recycle all cardboard waste, and use eco-green tote bags made of natural vegetable fiber for its 400 press kits.
Founded in 1989 as a fundraiser for New Center Council, the annual music, food and cultural event has been continually improved and reinvented. It was renamed Comerica Cityfest in 2007 to reflect the event’s maturing into a celebration of city life: a locally and nationally recognized cultural experience offering a diverse mix of restaurants, musicians, merchants, artists and children’s activities.
The purpose of Comerica Cityfest is to promote the long term development of Detroit’s historic New Center into a thriving 24-hour district. Admission to the event is free. “Taste” tickets are $10 for 16 tickets. Food and beverage purchased from the many quality vendors support the free entertainment at Comerica Cityfest, as well as the neighborhood services of New Center Council year around.
